About
I'm Wen Qin, though most places I go by WQYeo. I'm a software engineer based in Singapore.
Most of my day goes into business-automation software, and most of my nights go into small open-source tools I felt like building. I'm happiest working across the whole thing at once: the application people see, the services behind it, and the infrastructure it runs on. I reach for whatever language fits the problem instead of forcing one everywhere.
A good chunk of that open-source work lives under FreeSharkBytes, a small volunteer collective I started. The idea is simple: build free and open software, and the occasional game, for the joy of it, with no deadlines and no corporate agenda, and put most of what it earns toward charity. ByteMorph, FINS, and the Free BTO Planner all come out of it.
What I work with
The languages I reach for most are Kotlin, Java, C#, TypeScript, and Python. On the front end that usually means React or SvelteKit, and on the back end NestJS, PHP, or Django. The other half of my time goes into operations: Kubernetes, Terraform, and Ansible across AWS, Oracle Cloud, and Azure, with PostgreSQL behind most of it. I spend a lot of it in Linux and on the command line.
